Rebuilding Together: Community & Design in the Wake of Disaster

ABOUT CORPS COFFEES

Corps Coffees are all about conversations, creating connections and coffee! These are morning events centered around an important and timely topic for the design community. We don’t present anything, but we do help facilitate an in depth conversation about the topic as a means to deepen our understanding. Members of Design Corps, and anyone interested in and/or curious about design are invited to join us!

How do we rebuild—both socially and physically—after disasters shake our foundations? From wildfires in New Mexico and more recently in LA, to other catastrophes reshaping our communities, this discussion will explore community building in two essential ways: the social bonds that hold us together and the physical spaces that must be restored or reimagined.

In times of crisis, the strength of a community is often tested. What role do designers, architects, and creatives play in both immediate recovery and long-term regeneration? How do we ensure that rebuilding efforts not only restore but also improve resilience for the future? Can we create spaces that foster deeper human connection while also considering environmental sustainability?

This conversation is for anyone interested in the intersection of design, community, and resilience—whether you work in architecture, urban planning, social impact, or simply care about how communities heal and evolve after adversity.
